I'm also a biological mom, or "biomom", as we are called in the step-parenting world. Step-mothering, like the blog world, is a whole other reality, kinda like a science fiction movie, except it never actually ends (ha ha). It is for sure, the most incredible personal growth journey anyone could ever be on, and for me, has challenged, changed and strengthened me to every last fiber of my being.
I used to write a stepmom blog, when I first became one, and it lasted for about 5 years. After I got all of my initial angst and sheer bewilderment out, it got kinda hard to continue to roam those discussion forums. I realized I was ready to move onto the next phase. The blogs became a downer, and ultimately I stopped writing mine, because I had emotionally moved on and didn't need that outlet anymore. It really is true that stepfamilies have different developmental trajectories than "regular" families (whatever that is) and everything needs to be taken in stride. And with ice cream. However, every now and then something pretty great happens. It's in the quiet moments with my gaggle of boys that some big ah-ha's occur to me. I thought I would share one with you. I just published a reflection on step-parenting on a fantastic blog site I visit regularly called Role/Reboot.
